Overview
During the summer of 2024, I was entrusted with the exciting challenge of redesigning the squirrel monkey habitat at the Phoenix Zoo. This project involved close collaboration with Matt Strangewayes, the zoo’s Interpretive Content Manager. With a tight turnaround time, we had to act quickly to conceptualize and implement a fresh, engaging identity for the outdated exhibit. Our goal was to create a space that not only reflected modern design standards but also deepened visitor understanding of squirrel monkey behavior, ecology, and conservation.
APPROACH
As a result, I conducted in-depth research on squirrel monkeys to gain a deeper understanding of their behaviors and natural habitats, which I then translated into a clean, contemporary design aesthetic. Reflecting the Zoo’s binational focus, all interpretive content within the habitat is carefully presented in both English and Spanish, ensuring accessibility for the region’s diverse audience.
